Once again we delve into early '60s
as late '50s rockabilly gave way to doo-wop and the teen idol era.
It certainly was a period of Jimmy, Jackie, Billy, Jerrys and Bobbys!
Several of these solo singers had branched off of their previous groups,
Billy Duane is Bill Pickering of The Picks,
Hysterical Society Boys were previously named The Nighthawks,
Jim Slone was with The Shy Guys,
and Don Lanier had been with The Rhythm Orchids.
Nowadays he is known as a "cowboy poet" but in 1961 Red Steagall
had rock & roll aspirations under the alias of Russell Don,
Niki Sullivan of The Crickets joins up again with Gene Evans as The Hollyhawks,
Larry Bell & The Continentals were one of two South Dakota artists to record with Norman,
and future Roy Orbison writing partner Bill Dees ("Oh Pretty Woman" and other hits) is here with The Whirlwinds.
As the CD progresses you will hear the songs becoming more advanced
and some real gems have been dug out of the vault:
Walker Parris, Pat Carter and Bobby Sharp had some great material!
In mid-1964 Norman began recording on 4-track and we have an unissued
stereo track from Buddy Knox to finish off the collection.
