BARRY ALLEN & THE REBELS
Topping Canadian charts numerous times throughout the 1960s,
Wes Dakus & The Rebels featuring vocalist Barry Allen
were one of Canada’s busiest live bands. Recording with legendary
record producer Norman Petty in his Clovis, New Mexico studio,
Norman got them signed to Capitol Records in Canada,
and Kapp & Dot record labels in the US.
Canada’s RPM magazine named Wes Dakus & The Rebels “Top Instrumental Group” of 1966,
with Barry taking the award for “Most Promising Male Vocalist”.
One year later they disbanded, but Barry continued performing and recording until the early ‘70s.
A large reunion show got The Rebels back together in 1988,
and they did occasional shows until 1990.
Lead guitarist Bob Clarke passed away shortly after,
and the group never performed together again…until now.
For the first time in over 20 years, Barry Allen joins up with original Rebels
Stu Mitchell (drums & vocals), Dennis Paul (bass & vocals), Gerry Dere (keyboards),
with guest guitarist Gord Matthews (K.D. Lang’s Reclines / Ian Tyson Band)
to pack the dance floor performing in front of a sell-out crowd in their hometown
of Edmonton, Alberta Canada recorded on March 10, 2012.
